Programs

Washington’s 3,000 miles of shoreline offer abundant potential habitat for the flexible and adaptable European green crab – far more than we could hope to monitor by ourselves.

That’s why we partner with the community to support monitoring efforts. There are several ways to contribute time to green crab detection and monitoring:

Molt Search

Eyes on the Beach

Molt Search is designed for beachwalkers who want to contribute to green crab early detection on a flexible schedule! After attending a Molt Search training, you’ll follow simple steps to search for and report green and Dungeness crab molts through an online application. Learn more about Molt Search.

Monitoring Network

Boots in the Mud

The monitoring network is perfect for dedicated volunteers and staff at partner groups who can commit to monthly fieldwork and don’t mind getting a bit muddy. As part of a small team, you’ll set and check traps once per month from April through September.
